My daughter is 21, almost 22 months old now, and is having a difficult time with solid foods. She used to eat anything and everything I gave her, then all of a sudden it seems like she developed a gag reflex, and now chokes or makes herself choke on solids. I cut her food into minuscule pieces, mash it up, I feel like I've tried everything. She'll spit it out, gag, or throw it back up. I end up giving in to baby food, which is the last thing I want to do. I see other children her age feeding themselves and eating solid foods, such as meats, chewy foods, and crunchy foods. But she won't even bother with it.
Has anyone else had this problem, or is going through the same problem? I don't want to bother my doctor (who is also my daughter's pediatrician- gotta love having a pediatric nurse for a mom!) with these questions, because, honestly, I don't think she'll have any efficient answer for me, other than to keep trying or just let her go without eating. I understand that children my daughter's age will eat when they're hungry, but for her to not even want to bother with solids just seems strange to me. I don't know if it's a gag reflex problem, if she's allergic to something (which I doubt because she's had the same foods since she was a year old), or if it's something so common I'm overlooking it. If anyone has any helpful information, please contact me asap.
Thank you, hope everyone is having a good day!
