A few baby name sites

If that one perfect name still hasn't come to you, here are a few sites worth searching:

http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ (government website of most popular names)

http://www.babynames.com/ (gives names and their meanings, even has a name of the day)

http://www.babynamesworld.com/ (11,000 baby names)

http://www.babynames.com.au/ (you can even search by meaning)

The last one, http://www.babynames.com.au/ , was my favorite. You can put in what you'd like for the name to mean and come up with a name that way. For instance, if you want your baby girl's name to mean "The most beautiful one", you'd come up with the name Calista. Maybe that's how Calista Flockhart got her name.

Anyway..... glad you liked the sites.

There are also books of baby names that you can buy to help you find a name.

Did you see "Men In Trees" the other night. Annie gave Jack a book of baby names for him and Lynn. It was called "55,000 Baby Names" and I figured it might be just some fake thing they made up for a show prop. But, being curious, I went and googled it and found out it was a real book. With a pretty reasonable price too. Here's the Barnes & Noble link...

Is the meaning of the name really that important? I guess I just always assumed the way the name sounded was the most important factor.

It couldn't hurt to check out the meaning anyway. You could give a little girl a cute little name then find out later that it means "face of a horse". Then what? Yeah, at least check it out.
