Activity or Diet

Which do you think is the biggest problem, that is leading to childhood obesity for our country? Does a bad diet lead to weight gain, lead to inactivity, or inactivity more to blame?

I would think that it is a bit of both, but studies have shown that kids lose the ability to be active because of their weight not the other way around. So presumably diet control is most important.

I agree it is a little bit of both. Children are not being feed a good healthy diet and then parents are just sitting them in front of a tv or video games all day. We were forced to be outside all the time winter or summer as will my children.

Yeah, I believe it's both. Though, I think the bad habit of consuming junk food and candies contributes the most to childhood obesity. In the past, people didn't do exercises on purposes and they stayed healthy and in good shape because of their diet which mostly consisted of fresh and homemade food.

Both! But mostly lack of activity I would say. Well not really activity but exercise. I hear about so many kids playing on the computer or their X-box instead of playing outside.

It's up to us parents to get up and get outside with our kids.

I agree with baby3 here, yes get out there and get active with our kids. Lead by example! I also think that we have to start eating a lot healthier too. Cook healthy meals, get rid of the junk food.

It is both for most people. I see people all the time with "I cant" or "its too hard". People need to wise up and realize we only get one shot at life, why waste it and do you body harm. You do not get a 2nd one.

I'd say it's both. Some parents give their children a lot of fast food or instant meals with all the calories. They don't also have a lot of time going out with the kids and have a walk or play at the park. Most kids spend hours in front of the TV or their video games.

I also agree that it's both, but it's a lot easier to not eat 100 calories than to try to burn it off, so I think diet is the bigger issue.

Both hands down. Problem is it can be very expensive to feed a family healthy foods so it is important to instill good exercise habits from a young age.
