Are Syrups and Multivitamin Drops safe for babies?

My baby is 4 month old and is healthy. She weighs double to her birth weight and her height is also good.
Doctors has prescribed Calcium Syrup and Multivitamin drops.....
I ve been recommended by some friends that these drugs will disturb the digestive system of babies. Are these drugs safe to use?

Hi

If your baby is healthy why has the doctor prescribed supplements? There must be a reason. Maybe you should ask the doctor if they upset babies digestive systems and if so is this a worthwhile price to pay compared to the possible consequences of not taking the supplements.

Multivitamin drops/syrup are specially formulated for babies and children. so doctors who usually prescribe them for supplement should know they are good for your baby. The iron content in these preparations usually cause constipation or upset stomach but it all depends on individual sensitivity though.

Tummy aches and constipation are very common with these drops. I wouldn't give them unless I knew for sure that there was a reason to-that the baby wasn't getting enough from their diet. Otherwise I wouldn't do it.

My pediatrician told us that he wanted our baby on the multivitamin drops because the wife was breast feeding and that it was a way to make sure the baby had enough iron.

I understand the multivitamins but I'm not sure about the calcium. Never heard of calcium being prescribed for babies since their diet is milk. Did he explain why?

You need to question the doctor. I gave my first baby the vitamin and had no problems with it. But I never heard of the calcium suplement. He needs to be more thorough in his explanations.
