Autism

I have a child with Autism and sometimes I can not believe how insensitive and ignorant some people can be when it comes to this. People think it's easy to get a kid label with it so it is what a lazy person does. Took me 3 years to get a diagnosed with my son. It makes me angry because my son has other problems and has nearly died so many times and some people treat him so bad. I just think, have you spent most your life trying not to die AND have autism.. no? Then show some respect. Argg, sorry guess I am just venting.

Sorry, people are insensitive because they're uncomfortable around something or someone they can't do anything with or about. My step granddaughter is autistic and I find most people are afraid of her. What else does your son have that he's almost died?

Yes, a lot of people act that way out of fear or, more often, ignorance. It doesn't help that autistic children *look* normal, therefore the first thought of a stranger is that the child is undisciplined, rather than that he is autistic. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

Hang in there. I know how frustrated you must be. Each day there is more awareness about things like Autism and hopefully with the awareness peoples perceptions will change and they will learn how to be more respectful

I can only imagine how you feel. A good friend of mine has a son that is labeled autistic and she goes through the same thing as well as they are not 100% sure that is what is wrong. If it were me I would be voicing my opinions to people's faces lol! Just know there are people out there that you can lean on.
