Baby fell off the bed

His dad was in the process of changing his clothes on the bed and he got up and started jumping up and down on the bed (like we used to) and fell before he could grab him, he cried for a while and then he stopped, he has a bump on his forehead though. We put some ice on it, do you think I still need to continue iceing the bump until it goes down.

Baby's bounce! I know this had to scare you silly....you don't say how old...I don't think you need to continue the ice the next day though...be sure and take a picture of the first big boo boo...the scary part is about not letting them fall asleep after a head bang, and i think once you get past 24 hours of no vomiting etc. everything should be fine...and brace yourself mama, there are more to come!

My oldest fell of the changing table when she was little too. You normally only need to ice for the first 24 hours. I'm not sure babies bounce (I never noticed what happened after they fell, just that they fell and hauled butt over to them, lol) but they are definitely more resilient than we often think. Other than watching for signs of a concussion and not letting the baby sleep it will be out of mind in a couple days when the bump is gone.

He's 18 mo, he actually fell asleep a little after, so I checked on him regularly to make sure he was ok. He was, he slept for about 3 hours and then he was up and all over the place again. It's hard to contain him.

Kids fall all the time, unfortunately. They are pretty resilient little things and can survive a whole lot more than we can. I'm sure he's fine!

Yep I am always telling people that kids are bouncy, yet I still freak out a little when my girl falls (the quick falls are the scary ones). I once did some kungfu type reflexes with my ex, our son thought it would be funny to jump on the couch between us, well he did, the lost his footing, and both his father and I reached out to grab a hand and caught him right before the coffee table caught his head and would have made a nice boo boo mark for later in life to tell the ladies about. It was slow motion type reflexes, really freaky.

Now my girl on the other hand, she is at the point now were if she feels the need, she will squat down, otherwise I can be on the computer in here and hear a loud thud sound as her bum hits the play yard floor.

Babies have a soft skull yet and then they don't break much bones because they are still elastic. Even if the babies bump their heads with a hard matter, it will not remain permanent. But it doesn't mean that its ok for them to bump their anywhere, it still does hurt and it might have some damage on the brain.

When I was little, I always fell off from the stairs of our house and landing on a hard floor. Thank God that I don't have a permanent injury from those bad falls.

Placing the ice bag in the head where the bumped area will relieve the pain a little bit and reduce the swelling. But you don't have to do it again the following day because it will heal itself already. Just look for any signs (like fever or vomiting) that your child might manifest after the fall so you can take him/her to a doctor if needed.

I do agree thay are quite resilient, this is not is first fall. So I get a little bit less worried each time. I try my best to take the necessary precaution, but we all know we can't shield them from everything.

I agree with all the others on how to handle the bump. My hubby used to make me feel bad cause I could never get to mine fast enough to pervent the fall. But they do fall and fall a lot .Just don't feel to blame it happens and hopefully it won't be serious.
