Baby slings

Did any of you Mom's or dad's use the baby slings that keep the baby close to you but you still get to have hands? I did not get one with my first child but I am considering it this time around.

I tried the baby sling but I found that I did not use it. I just did not like the way it held the baby. I switched over to a baby Bjorn pretty quickly. I used the Bjorn with all of my kids after that.

I never tried the Bjorn but I did have a baby sling. I used it with all my kids. I agree, you have to be cautious with the slings - if you don't position the child right, they could easily slip out. They also can take time getting used to them and how to distribute the baby's weight in a comfortable manner for you as well as the baby.

Actually, you'd be surprised how difficult it is to position a baby in a sling in such a way that they would be able to slip out, much less *easily* slip out.

That said, my baby didn't like the sling. She never liked being swaddled, either. In fact, she never liked being pushed on at all (even in the womb).

Always! Slings are a best friend in our house hold and that of almost all family members too. I can not think of one member of the family who is not stocked up with at least one in their house just in case others come to visit and need one.

I have been researching them I didn't use one with my first child but I can definitely see the benefit since I will have two small kids at home. I am just not sure what to get. I have been looking at the Dr. Sears ones.

I did not use either for my first pregnancy and the bjorn for the second. Now for the third, I am considering giving the sling a chance. I have seen so many African ladies in my neighborhood with the sling and how comfortable they are with it. You should even see how they put the baby in their backs when they are too big for the sling. I probably will not get used to it, but I want to give it a try.

I used one and so did my husband. I have read where a certain make of sling was dangerous because the baby could suffocate but I was always aware of what my baby was doing and it was invaluable for leaving your hands free for other things.

I am planning to get one this time around as well. Being able to have your hands free and still be able to keep the baby close is just awesome. I am still struggling with what kind to get too though.

We didn't get on with the commercial carrier, and went with a Maya wrap instead. It has worked really well for us, as you say for freeing me up to do stuff I couldn't otherwise.
