Baby Swings with a Basket

We put our two month old baby boy in a nursery where they had a baby swing with a basket on it. The staff would put him in it and he would go to sleep. Within a week, we began having problems with him going to sleep and staying asleep at night. He had been a sound sleeper before. Has anyone else had that problem?

Ah your baby have gotten used to the motions of the baby swing. I'm not sure if getting your own baby swing is a good idea. Better see what the others have to say, but I think it wouldn't hurt as babies will outgrow the swing. How do you get him to sleep at night?

It *could* be unrelated. At 2 months, he could have hit a growth spurt and be needing more food during the night, and that is what is waking him up.

Well I know that motion helps a baby sleep and that's why they had rocking cradles in the old days. I recall having to take my baby out for a drive in the car in the evening as this was the only thing that would get him to sleep, but that was a bit drastic!

I think it is definitely related to the motion. I had a very similar experience to that of Livingston and I asked the day care center not to put her in a swing with a basket so she wouldn't be laying down and moving. They started only putting her in it when she was sitting up and within a week she was sleeping normally at nights again.
