My mom gave me some good advice for choosing a baby's name and I thought I would share.
#1. Check the initials. Make sure they don't spell anything....interesting.
#2. Think about 2nd grade. What is the class bully going to do with your child's name. Exp Peter Parker=P.P.
#3. Imagine your child is President. Will there name be an issue in the campaign? Exp. I have a friend (adult) who's name is Bunny. President Bunny just doesn't work!

This post made me laugh, I will remember this advice when I have a child of my own. My last name is going to change to Brown in the summer so I won't want my child to have their first name start with B and middle names with O and O. That would just be cruel of me ;)

Speaking of names, how do nicknames created? I mean Robert has a nickname of Bob. I could not see the connection in Robert and Bob.
I have watched the movie "Open Season" and the part where Boog was given the nickname Booger is an example what bullies can do to any kids. Another part was in the grocery where Boog called Elliot as Idiot, which rhymes.
But thanks all the same with those advices, I sure will remember them in naming my child.
Also choose a name that he won't be the last knowing how to spell his name in his class.
Go for a strong name that has character.

Try to give a popular name .Neither of my girls like their names. I tried to give one a name you don't hear all the time and she hates it. My hubby and I both picked a name for our girls ,one the first name and one the middle. Be very careful picking names though. It could take 9 months ,so start early.:D

I always did the same think (kind of) tried to think of ways it could be made fun of...Husband wanted son to be 'Peter' and daughter 'Joy' I veto'd both..ha , my dad wanted to name me ''Candy'' fortunately mom veto'd that....while all nice names, very easy to make fun of...Does anyone (especially as a child) really like their names though?

Go for a strong name that has character.
This is absolutely true! The name that a person carries have meanings in them. And these characters that the name has will mostly manifest in the person when he is matured already.
That is quite interesting. My mother get our names from famous person, she believes that when we grow up. We will become famous too.
I think that when I have my own baby I will give him/her a combination of famous and a usual name.
Also, don't spell the name in any real different way. We had 3 Chrystals at work and they all had different spellings. No one knew how to spell which.
Another idea is, don't go for nicknames as the real name. If you want Lexie, Give them Alexandria. That way when they no longer like the nickname they can change it to a number of variations.
