Due to my age mostly and the risks of problems, my doctor wants me to undergo amniocentesis to check for Down's Syndrome and other issues. I never had this done with my other children and have read that there is an increased risk of miscarriage doing this test. I'm nervous about it either way as I also don't want their to be something wrong. Any advice?

When I was suppost to get mine done even though I'm only 19 I worked with a woman who was also pregnant and i told her about it. She was 42 and she told me that she didn't and would recommend me not doing the test because of the chance of miscarriage and she explained to me that if my child did have downs would i really want to know that my whole pregnancy....

Here's a question for you. If it turns out your child has a medical condition, what do you plan on doing about it? I, myself could never abort my child, even if it had issues. I wouldn't risk an amnio because it's nothing that can't be dealt with later.

I didn't think of the "what if" part of the equation but that's a very good point. I wouldn't be aborting, no matter what, so there really is very little reason to know in advance. Thanks for the new perspective - it really helped.
