There's a lot of pros and cons to homeschooling. Ex., teacher/student ratio, religious, violence and so on. Starting homeschooling in itself is hard to do. There's finding a school curriculum that is approved in your State and in some States you can map out your own curriculum. It than has to be approved by your local school board. Some States also have rules that state that one or both parents have to have at least a certificate to teach your own child.

If you do find that you can meet all the prerequisites, just buying the textbooks and supplies can run into expense. Finding a support group can help. The network of parents swap books back and forth. Trips can be planned and if you have a large group you can get the discount that a regular school group receives.

Any one here thinking fo taking this route? Do you know someone else that home schools? How have they done with it?

Never really thought about that to much. My wife and I both went to public school and we both enjoyed it and thought it was a good experience. so our child will be going to a public school.

Can't say I'm considering it. Public School is working out great for my child, although I know that isn't the best option in some dangerous neighborhoods.

My son is going to public school. I hated home-schooled kids growing up, and snobby private school kids. I want my child to be a normal person.

I like public schools better, mainly because it is the same stuff for cheap.

I wouldn't consider homeschooling my children. They need to be out with other children, making friends and playing (on breaks, not in school). I think they're cheated out of that when they're home schooled. My children will likely go to private school because I believe teachers in private schools have more time for their students. Class sizes are smaller, and teachers don't have quite as many demands on them.

My sister home schooled and it was expensive. She belonged to a network of other home schoolers, but found them to be just a little too snobby for her liking. She said that the car pooling was just as much as a hassle as if the kids went to public school. Clicks were still a part of the kid and parents. In her home studies, she didn't have a bible study hour per se and there were some parents that thought that was just terrible. She had the option of going with what some schools were offering, but all of them were Christian based. Not that she wasn't for teaching her children about God, but she went for creating her own curriculmn and having it approved by the State. She took her kids to church just like everyone else and let the kids go to Sunday school. A lot of the parents had bible study lesson included in their programs and couldn't see that letting a church do the bible study or Sunday school part was a lot easier.

She stuck with it until her children were about 3rd and 4th grade age and enrolled them in the school in her neighborhood. Both kids went in with an a reading comprehension and math comprehension that was above there age level. She must have been doing something right!

Public School for my son. I feel it is really good. We don't have the money for private and we don't have time for home-school.
