I didn't know where else to put this, so here goes. DH and I are not parents yet. We will become foster parents within the next four to six months. We have NOTHING for babies. Our age range is 0-5 and we will have two at a time.

If I were pregnant, I would have a baby shower. Is it OK for me to have a baby shower for becoming a first-time foster mom? We're foster/adopt parents.

Babies are slippery as it is, so I don't think showering the baby is a good thing. Their eyes are very sensitive and the soap being rinsed out of their eyes might cause problems.

I've never heard that you could give the baby a shower. I would say no to infants, but I'm not sure for older babies. You might want to ask the pediatrician.

LOL, looks like we have a couple of comedians among us. :)

Helen, I don't know if it's common to have a shower for foster/adopted children or not, but I don't see anything wrong with it. If you're feeling funny about it, have a friend or relative do the shower for you, nobody has to know it was your idea. You can start a trend. :)

I'd say go for it. It is a different situation but the same outcome.

You guys are funny, silly, wonderful!

Here's another wrinkle! DH and I live 1400 miles from our families! How should we work that?

I would say schedule a get together about 3 months after you know for sure that you will get a child, and invite them ASAP so they can come visit you. Or save them some money, and if all of your family is close together, go visit them. :)

Definitely do the Baby Shower. Talk to the family that lives several miles away from you and see if you could go over there to visit and have a baby shower. Good luck with it.

I agree with what Father time said. Sadly with my girl last year, with family from DH on the west coast, mine in NE area, and his mother in London - we had no baby shower. I have not have one ever, even with my first my boy. I think when they are both 18 and have jobs, I am going to demand they provide me with a party. :D As for being foster or not, you are still a parent and have every right to a shower!
