Since Im a soon to be father, I was wondering what is the best way to bathe a newborn. Ive heard sponge baths, or bathing them in the sink are two good ways.

Any other sugestions.

for the first few weeks my wife and I did sponge baths only, and after that we moved the little guy into the bath tub. Seemed to work pretty well for us.

Spongebaths are always good. It's the easy way out :D.

horay for the easy way out, I think doctors also recomend it. so its both easy and good.

For a newborn, there are baby wipes. You can get the unsented. I used them for about the first month when I came home from the hospital.

When they got older, because we were a close family, I or my husband would take the baby in the tub with us. One or the other of us would lay a towel across the front of us, lay the baby on it and wet the wash rag and take it from there. When we were finished the other parent would take the baby and wrap the baby in a dry towel and the baby was as squeaky clean as could be.

The good part of this was that the baby was relaxed and ready for bed almost immediately. The other good thing was that if you were using a baby bath soap, you came out smelling squeaky clean also...lol

I had the old fashioned, plastic baby tub. It had a slanted section that brought the baby up to a reclining position, but it was too long, So, I would fill the end up with rolled up towels so the baby could brace the feet against it. I would put rolled up towels on both sides so the baby couldn't turn over and take it from there.

I think my wife and I will start out with the sink approach for the first few weeks and than move to the tub. seems like the simplest and seems to make the most sense.

I used the sink for awhile. Then I started taking them into the tub or shower with me. They loved the shower.
