When it was finally time for the actual birth of my first son, I was moved from the labor room to a delivery room. But with my second son, I gave birth in the same room I was put in when I got to the hospital.
Is it common to give birth in the labor room?
It depends the area. In AZ with my son in 02, I was in the triage (waiting for a labor and delivery room), then the LDR for a day, then the night he was born, there, then next day moved into a private room. With my girl, last Oct. in SC I went into an area to get checked in (general room to see dr. in), then labor room, stayed there during entire visit. Never moved to after care (they were over booked in the nursery/hosp that week). I was discharged 30 hours after her birth.

I have done both. I liked staying in the same room the entire time best. It felt less... ummm.. medical. I will say the bed sucked though. I wish they would switch the mattress out for you, cause the lil *topper* they put on it so you don't feel where it can pull apart did NOT do its job well.
