Did your child go through a biting stage? My cousin's little girl is going through terrible twos and she's a mean little thing. When she gets mad, she bites. She's bitten her older brother, her parents, the family dog, and last night she bit me. Nobody knows what to do. I don't believe in spanking, but my cousin does and she's spanked her many times for this behavior. I tried the time out thing (she bit me when I tried to put her on a chair for time out). Short of biting her in return, what else is left?

I hope I never have to deal with that issue, but if I do, I'll probably try using a "naughty chair", and if that doesn't work then I'll try loss of priviledges. Sometimes taking away a favorite toy for awhile might teach them a lesson that making them sit still doesn't seem to teach them. Good luck to your cousin, sounds like she has her work cut out for her.

Well, as much as many will rear back in horror over this, my son did the same thing. We tried all the usual things. My grandmother suggested rubbing a lite coating of clove oil on our arms. Clove oil is a numbing agent. When my son would bite down, he's get a taste of the oil and make the most nasty looking faces a kid could make. He didn't like the way the oil numbed his lips or tongue. He stopped.

I haven't run into that, lucky I quess. I did have a friend that believed in an eye for an eye thing. Her daughter was doing that. She would bite anyone at anytime. Nothing her mother was doing was getting through to her daughter on just how wrong that was. She decided to take drastic measures....she bit her back. Not hard, just enough for her daughter to realize what she was doing felt like and to let her know that if she did that again, to her or anyone else, that she would get bitten right back.

It worked, but it was drastic.
