What are the most common characteristics of braxton hicks? I've been having a lot of pressure in my pelvic area, sometimes feeling like I need to bear down as if I were making a bowel movement. Sometimes there's a little bit of pain, but mostly just discomfort from the pressure. I was thinking that it was braxton hicks. At first it didn't occur as often, but is now getting more frequent (possibly because I'm almost 29 weeks now and into the home stretch trimester?).

Also, I had very very (and I mean very) light spotting this morning. My significant other and I still have sex occasionally a couple of times a week and I figured the spotting is just from my cervix being so sensitive that it will bleed anytime anything irritates it. Am I on the right track?

I am not far enough for Braxton-Hicks in this pregnancy but with my first three, I never experienced pressure when I got them. I don't believe that is normal, especially since you are under 30 weeks. Add spotting to that and I really recommend you talk to your doctor immediately. It could be nothing but better safe than sorry.

I would also encourage you to at least make a call. Spotting after sex is normal, braxton hicks are normal, pressure can be normal. But all three together, at 29 weeks is worrisome.
