A friend of mine is due in 5 weeks and it seems her little one doesn't want to flip. He's still in the breech position. She wants to know what the odds of delivering naturally if baby doesn't flip before delivery. Also, how much luck is there in manually shifting baby?

Has she had a version? Versions carry a lot of risk and some doctors won't do them, or will only try them just before a section is scheduled. she should try seeing a chiropractor and an acupuncturist to turn the baby. If the baby is just being stubborn, that should turn the baby. Some times there are anomalies that cause the fetus to stay breech (like a too-short cord, or the placement of the placenta) and in that case, nothing you do "naturally" will flip the baby.

I know when my son was breech (he actually turned the day before I had a c/s scheduled), my ob told me that the only way you coulddeliver a breech baby vaginally around here is to show up at the hospital with a butt hanging out. :eek: Doctors (in the US) just don't have experience in vaginal delivery of breech babies anymore.

That's too bad. I know she doesn't want a section. I don't know if she had a version yet. I just knnow she wants it to turn. I'll tell her to see a chiropractor. Hopefully that helps.

I know some like to wait until the last minute before they flop but not all. Might want to have a good talk with that little bun in the oven and explain that breech isn't nice for Mommy's.
