My little one seems to be a tasty treat for bugs. I don't get bitten.
How can I keep them away? I don't want a whole load of chemicals on her.
My grandmother vows that if you give your baby baths in skin so soft- from avon- that it will keep bugs away. Now, my husband says if you put some of that on before you go black berry picking that you won't get bit as often. I don't know if it will work for either but I don't know that it won't either.

What does the avon product contain that might be keeping the bugs away? Some of the things that I had heard were things like eating garlic, because apparently the bugs don't like the smell.
But I don't think there is going to be a lot of garlic eaten just yet.

My little one has the same problem. And he has a terrible allergic reaction to mosquitos...they swell up and develop a blister which pops and then scabs over. Its disgusting and I am afraid people will think he is abused or something. The first time it happened I freaked out, I rushed him to the doctor thinking it was a brown recluse bite or somethign bad like that, it was all I could do to not burst out in tears. I also refuse to put anything wtih DEET in it on him. I have not found anything that works yet. Someone recommended increasing the bird population in our backyard by adding some bird feeders. I did that and the birds ate it all like there was never gonna be another meal, but we still have tons of mosquitos. I have not tried to the skin so soft though.

We used Skin-so-soft when I was a kid, and it worked pretty well. Now I use lavendar oil, and I tuck a dryer sheet in their back pockets, and they didn't get any bites on fourth of July.
I have heard of the garlic and also the dryer sheet stories but not sure about the skin so soft, I thought that one was just a myth. A friend tried it and it ended up doing the complete opposite.
I have never tried garlic, though we eat a lot of it and I've never tried the fabric softener sheets, though I'm going to try it. I'm going to look up different ways to prevent bug bites and post them the next time I get on here.

I never had any luck with skin so soft, although I believe they make an actual bug spray with DEET in it as well as the original product I tried. I use a natural spray I picked up from the health food store with things like geranium oil, soybean oil, eucalyptus, and lavender. I normally buy whatever brand is in stock and they work as well as low DEET sprays and are safe for small children.

Really dryer sheets huh? I should try this one out. I only try not to use fruity shampoos or body wash on my son and put light color clothing on him as well.
