At what age did your child or children start using building blocks? My son started using them when he was about a year, but he is just now actually building things.
I have seen some play with them at about a years age or a little sooner with supervision. I have also seen soft blocks but I'm not sure who makes them it was awhile back. Will try and keep an eye out for them.

They make a lovely foam block these days, complete with fake woodgrains. I always had the solid wood ones so they weren't really brought out until around a year when no one could knock each other in the head with them.
My nieces and nephews all started out with wooden blocks when they were about a year old. I have seen these fancy foam blocks too and I like them, but I think the wooden blocks will take the wear and tear better.
My son began using them at 10 months (with my help). He can now stack 2 or 3 blocks on top of one another at age 15 months. Block building is a wonderful activity to help with an infant's fine motor development. During time spent with my son, we often work on block building. :)
I have been shopping around for some lately for a friend and we are looking to get (for her twins) the kind that show the letter on one side (they are also clear) & an animal in the middle but most places have these sold out. A true pain trying to hunt them down.
