not realy a baby question so I thought Id put it here. For those that have older kids what age did they recieve cell phones? Ive seen some pretty young kids with cell phones and was just wondering when other parents gave their kids cell phones.

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law just got a cellphone for their kids (10 and 8). I guess the whole thing came about when their 10 year old daughter went to spend the night at a friends house and the parents left a teenage boy to watch them. She knew it just wasn't right. So, they got the phone for situations like that. Whichever of them is going to a friend's house for a sleepover will have the phone with them. If they're going out to play together, their daughter will carry the phone. I think when we have kids, I'll probably get them cell phones when they start school. I'll teach them how to use it to call home and tell them it's only for an emergency. I know it sounds a little paranoid, but that's fine... I'll be paranoid if it'll keep my children safe.
