Has anyone ever been extended an invitation to a get together or party and asked not to bring the baby? What did you do?

I was asked that once. It was a friends wedding. My baby was about 6 months old. I was told that I could bring the baby to the reception, but not the wedding. I thought that was just rotten being the bride had her older nieces and nephews in the wedding themselves. I turned it down in a heartbeat. I later found out that the bra....errr....children were holy terrors with running through the church and causing havoc at the reception. Mine would have eaten, had a few diaper changes and slept.

I am always stuck baby sitting my baby sister when my parents go out. I can understand them wanting some time alone but it is tough on me.

There's no way that I would have accepted that invitation. I think that I would have wished her the best of luck and just let her put up with the nieces and nephews.

It's not just babies that are left out sometimes. My brother got married when my kids were 13 and 14. When we got the invitation, it said "18 and over only, no exceptions". I thought that was the tackiest thing I'd ever seen. But, my kids didn't go to the wedding. Of course, I didn't either... and neither did the gift I would've taken. Leave my children out, how dare he?!?! When I saw him later he told me he thought for sure I'd be at the wedding because my kids were old enough to stay by themselves. I told him they were also old enough to know how to behave in public. We left it at that.

I wanted adult time many times, so we had someone babysit. My kids got used to it.

It depends on the age of the kids. I can understand someone asking to not have babies at the wedding. I've seen babies litterally destroy a wedding by screaming and crying. The videos were ruined, the bride and groom were all stressed out, it just wasn't fair to ruin their special day. There are times when you really should get a sitter.
