I saw on the news tonight in my State, that they were incorporating comic books into the reading curriculm (sp?). That kind of blew my mind. When we went to school and when my kids went to school, how many comic books were taken away and put in the teacher's desk?

The reason for the comics is that they are saying that anything that encourages a child to read is welcomed. Okay, I agree there, but isn't that a double standard? They will still have the textbooks that they will use to read from, but they are going to be allowed to use comic books to do book reports on. The comics that they were using as an example were Donald Duck and I think I saw a Spider Man.

You know what? For me, I was always an avid reader, but if it wasn't for the Classic Comics I wouldn't have touched the classics....lol

I'm kind of on the line with this here. What do you all think?

Comic books? I guess that if you had to get kids to read then comics would be the way to go. I know that were some schools that were planning their reading programs around the Harry Potter series. I guess what ever works.

I never liked comic books as a kid. I can't imagine them having any educational value. But I'm all for anything that would get a child to read something instead of staring blankly at the television all the time. Maybe it's a good idea.

I can remember the Smokey the Bear and Gruff the Crime Dog that we got if it tied into the unit that we were studying. It was usually a one time thing to be read and that was the end of them. I don't know, maybe comics will work.

I bet kids are going to be putting text books inside comic books now. This is really interesting. I was never really into comic books, but if they can find a way to do it...
