I think all dads are in the delivery room these days. But I overheard a couple in the hospital the same time as us, she told him his place was in the waiting room he shouldn't have to watch the childbirth. And... he waited in the waiting room. That seemed so strange to me.

That is horrible!! I can't imagine any parent doing that. That is just plain abandoning.

I guess they both wanted it that way. Just seemed really old fashioned to me. When I heard her tell him that, I thought it sounded like something my mamaw might have told my papaw back in the day, but people just don't think like that nowdays.

My daughter-in-law felt it was fine either way. She said that he can be in there and feel responsible, or he can be in the waiting room, to give her some air and space. He ulitmately chose to stay in the delivery room, and she was happy with it :)

If it is alright with my wife, I will be in the delivery room :)

Most wives want the support (or the punching bag) ha ha. Nothing says love like that demonic voice coming out of that sweet little lady as she says "you did this to me and you're never touching me again" along with a couple of expletives best left unmentioned here.

Things sure change with time. Used to the dad's weren't allowed in the delivery rooms at all.
I sure didn't want my hubby in there with me. But, then my oldest it almost 38 so at that time it was kinda unheard of. LOL

The same is true for me. Back then the dad's stayed in the waiting room while us moms did all the work.

Hopefully the punches I will take in the stomach shows me the pains that she is going through.

The pain is painful, but it isn't worth inflicting pain on your spouse...the first diaper is punishment enough :D.

I was there in the labour room for all 3 of my kids' births. Would have had it no other way and am happy that I was there to witness it and help my wife in some small way.

I cannot bear the pain my wife experienced when she gave birth but my support on her side is enough I guess. Her grip on my wrist are so strong that it left a mark after she released it. That is how I share the pain she was experiencing.:o

I was there for our kids' births. I must confess that I felt rather helpless - even guilty but I don't see how I could want to be anywhere else during an 'event' like my wife giving birth.

Oh, I was there... through the whole darn ordeal! :(

That said, everyone has a different way of handling things.

Some wives don't want their husbands in the delivery room, and some husbands frankly don't want to be there.

I honestly didn't really want to be there... but I felt it would be wrong if I was to be absent.
