I'm not sure why it's considered 'delaying'. My infants have yet to have solids. They were born just over four weeks early, so were officially preemies. I don't want to start them on solids until they are at least 6 months adjusted.
When did you start?

I tried with my girl at about six months. It was a miserable failure, she wasn't interested in the slightest. I tried again about two weeks later, and then two weeks after that.....ad infinitum.
Finally she started taking a good amount of solids when she hit around 15 months old. From about 12-15 months she would eat maybe one mouthful of any meal I offered. She was a strapping big girl, all on breast milk alone, so I wasn't worried.
I know that some delay adult foods (non baby size) and milk, never known many that had preemies. Have you had any other issues besides being early?

There were problems with feeding them to begin with. Their mouths were too tiny to latch, and I still wanted to nurse and so I had to express to feed them to begin with. We went home at two days old still, using nipple shields to make it easier for them to latch.
However the one was latching for real at about eight days old, and the other two days later. There were no other issues other than being a little small.

I am curious as to what you mean by baby sized? Baby foods should not really differ from adult foods other than their consistency. They need to be soft or puréed, but the best situation would be for the baby to be eating the same foods as the parents, but in an acceptable form.

The best nutrition a baby that young can get at this age is breast milk/formula, whichever you are using. My son was not interested in baby food (solids) until around 8 months. When he was 10-11 months I started using my food grinder to grind up chicken and some other "adult" foods.

We also didn't introduce foods other than breastmilk until after the 6 month mark. My first was uninterested until about 9 months, my second was interested at 6. Each kid is different BUT breastmilk (or formula) should make up most of the diet for the first year, solids before a year are just introducing tastes and textures, not for nutrition.
