View Full Version : Diaper Rash

When my daughter was a baby, no matter how many times I changed her or types of diapers I used, both cloth and disposable, she would still come up with bouts of diaper rash. It made me feel like I was doing something wrong or that I wasn't a good mom.

Her pediatrician told me that some babies are just allergic to their own urine. It could be from the types of food or juices that she was eating. That after she started showing what her preferences were to foods and juices that the diaper rash problem would start to subside and once she was potty trained it would disappear all together.

The pediatrician also told me that whenever possible, to let her air out...lol This was when I was at home and she could crawl around or when she was in her play pen. Now that was a comedy in itself, but she did get over it. Once she was potty trained the problem did just disappear.

A friend of the family, who just happens to be a pediatric nurse, told me that after I changed and my baby and washed her bottom to dry her with a blow dryer set on low instead of with a towel. She said the towel would irritate the diaper rash even more, and the blow dryer would do a more thorough job. Just make sure you have it on the lowest setting so you don't burn the baby. It was good advice in my opinion.

That sounds like a good idea, I will definitely use that when my baby arrives.

I never really had the diaper rash issue with either of my kids, maybe a handful with each. The only thing I still use (if needed for the little girl) is Aveeno diaper rash cream. The thing I was stuck with, was always heat rash or drooly rash. :)

My son had rash only a couple times when his poop would be highly acidic for some reason. Which never happened until he started eating solids. I didn't use cream cause it cleared up pretty fast, I would only use a little baby powder to make sure it was kept dry and not irritated further.
