Something I read up on recently said that if you would like to teach new languages to children, to do it early. I believe in Kindergarten-2nd Grade is the best years to start. Their brains are most active then and retain information better.

I remember having a hard time learning Spanish in high school. It might be better when younger.

My 9 year old niece is taking spanish in school, and I thought that was awfully young to be learning a different language. Kindergarden? Wow. My kid's gonna end up smarter than me isn't he?

LOL Devilish Dad.
I didn't really teach my children stuff too young. When they were about 8 and 10 my wife started taking them to learn French which they loved. They speak fluently now.

My wife talks and reads with him a lot. He memorizes some of his books :).

I wish I was taught a language when I was young. The schools around here start in high school and it is pretty tough to become fluent that late. Other schools districts start in elementry school, which I think is a great idea because its proven children learn the most at that age. Any way I hope my new nephew will have an opertunity to learn a language when he is 5 or 6.
Are school district starts teaching a language in 1st grade. So little Ryan can get some exposure early. We'll see if he can pick up on it and become fluent.

It would be a lot better if they were taught that young in school. It is a very good thing to do.

My kids took language classes in high school. I'm sure they could impress you with their ability to count to 10 in both spanish and french. :p
Hopefully they will start the language classes earlier now. I'd love to see my granddaugher being fluent in another language. I always wanted better for my kids than what I had, and I know my daughter wants more for her kids. I'm sure she'll be thrilled if language classes are available in elementary school.

Thats another reason we plan to send the twins to private school. We know they offer language classes at an earlier age than the public schools in our area. I believe some of their other classes may be a little more advanced too.
