Did you have in mind a particular birth setting, and a plan laid out for how you wanted to birth your child? And if you did, did it work out for you?

I really didn't have much of a plan, other than no meds, no episiotomy and natural breathing and pushing rather than coached. My MIL (we are very close) was with me, as my husband was pretty out of it. He didn't want to be there.

I had a wonderful experience, just the way I wanted. Perfect in fact. I realise many can't have that and I feel for them, especially when things go wrong.

The first time around, in the room were myself, SO at the time, 1 nurse and 1 doctor. His parents (mother and step father who both work at another hospital than the one I was in) were in the waiting room. Had the epidural, got an epi after I tore.

Second time around, my DH, 2 doctors (1 for epidural, 1 for delivery), and 1 nurse. Got the epidural @ 9.5cm (not fun, 9 hours after labor started), got the episiotomy before I tore this time. Second time around I knew what to expect, so my girl was born in about 15 minutes, while the first time with my son it was more like 45 minutes. :) And DH's aunt and uncle were in waiting room that time.

I don't think either were my dream births, but I am happy that I was surrounded by people that were able to help me along the way, esp. the first time when its needed the most. The only thing I would have changed, is being able to have my mom there, maybe not in the room, but at least there for support.
