I've seen some pretty young babies with pierced ears. Is it a good idea to get their ears pierced so early, or should that wait until they're older? I know it's ultimately a personal preference, but I'm wondering more along health issues. Is there more of a chance of the earlobe tearing if you have it done so early or will it be stronger because the baby has grown with the piercing in place?

We have a friend who's currently an intern, but is planning to go into pediatrics. I think I'll check with him on this question. I'm sure he'll know the answer. I'll let you guys know when I find out.

The rule in my family was you could get your ears pierced when you turned 12. My sisters got their ears pierced at 12. I got my ears pierced at 12. My niece on my sister's side got her ears pierced at 12. My nieces on my brother's side got theirs ears pierced too early and it was a mess.

I think it's just better all the way around to let the child decide if she even wants her ears pierced.

When ny daughter is old enough we will let her decide. Since neither my wife or I have a problem with pierced we will leave it up to her.

My wife can't wait to pierce our daughter's ears. We are going to wait til she is at least 3 first though. Any younger and it is just horrible.
