My first wife had to have an episiomity with our first son. Basically what it is is they cut the birth canal a little larger for the child to get out safely, then they sew it back up. Hers tore back open once, but she is okay now.

That just sounds so unpleasant to me. I think I'd rather have a caesarian than to have that done.

I had a C-section. All I can say is...keep the pillow near by when you cough. Coughing makes everything hurt. The nurses said that a pillow gave you support when you coughed and it should hurt less. That depends on you definition of hurt!

With my son in 2002, I heard "We are going to cut you so you don't tear, OOPS, you tore", that was not what I wanted to hear from my Doctor. During my 2nd (daughter this past Oct.) I was cut, after my new doctor heard that story. It is not nearly as bad as being tore.

My sons measurements were: 13" head & shoulders
My daughters: 13" 1/4 and 13" head

Still hurt, but not as bad as the first time! :)

While it sounds unpleasant I had an episiotomy, and it wasn't that bad. It's faster to recover from than a cesarean also. They just make an incision that they sew back up while you are holding your baby for the first time. I never felt or noticed it. (YAY epidural).

It is always better to here 'we are going to cut you so you dont tear', rather than hearing 'oops you tore'. :) Just my thoughts on that one.

A tear heals slower and isn't as easy to sew up as a straight cut. So I totally have to agree with you kiico! lol

I never knew there were so many terms and ways of having a baby. I thought it was basically either:

Baby comes out so, "YAY!"

Or

Baby doesn't come out / something's wrong so cut open the mom and hopefully the baby's okay and hopefully the mom's okay too.

But I've never heard of this episiomity before. Doesn't even come up on spell check...

I think your username fits perfect, research, there are many things to learn. And as for the cut healing quicker, it did, but sadly being the second and after a really bad car wreck, my back muscles took the longest to heal. Any time I bent over to pick up the little one, my muscles felt like squishy mush.

After my first delivery, the doctor was sewing me up, and when that needle went in the first time, I jumped. I didn't know what the doctor was doing, and the pain, while it was really minimal, surprised me. The doctor's response was that I shouldn't be feeling anything, so she gave me some pain medication through the tube still in my arm. Well that made everything good for me.:) I never felt them cut me. And I had no pain medication during labor or delivery other than a local anesthesia.

That sounds horrible. The thought of it is making me squirm. I am a big baby though. If I see that in person, I will probably faint.

You can either faint, or suck it up and deal with it. I would much rather have to get one, that be forced to tear - anyday! :)
