Our five month old grandson, has discovered his (freakishly large I might add) hands, and puts them in his mouth at every opportunity. The problem is his face has developed an ugly red rash, I'm assuming (and per doc) from the slobber. Doc says not to worry will evidentually go away, but it's ugly ! ha ...... I don't think it bothers him, and we have tried every remedy we can think of. Any suggestions?

Looks shouldn't really matter for a child (except for unibrows...). Plus for every rash/scar/scrape he gets, you can have another story to tell someone who asks about it. :)

If it doesn't go away and your grandon begins to scratch it (or if he's scratching it now), bring up "Eczema" - Google Link (http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Eczema&spell=1).
I have it, but it's only mild thankfully. It just shows up mildly on my shins and thighs in the winter mostly.

A friend's baby had a very similar problem. She used Baby's Bliss Babyderma and her infant's skin cleared up quickly. Babyderma can be found at www.blissbymom.com

If you choose to use something on the rash just be careful. It is obviously very close to his mouth and you have to be aware of the fact that anything that goes on the face will be ingested too.

Thank's so much for all the suggestions, I know it's not bring up "Eczema" because our grand daughter has that and this is nothing like it. Nor does it itch..We'll get it half way cleared up using one thing then bam, here it comes again.....it's so frustrating! ha ... We'll try that babyderma and see how that goes......thanks again!
If it doesn't itch and its not Eczema, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have a friend that her girl wakes every other morning with a slobber rash, and it is mostly gone within an hour or two of her waking. :)
My girl has that problem herself. She sleeps with her mouth open and slobbers all over the place, then wakes up with one side of her face all rash-ed out. :) The first time, I freaked out of course, and I'm thinking OMG what did I feed her to make that happened? :D Then about a day later I put the 2 and 2 together and realized she doesn't mind sleeping in slobber, as if she falls asleep on someones chest, she does the exact same thing!
I would check to make sure its nothing complex, but more than likely, you just have a slobber baby like me. :) Good luck!
