Me and one of my best friends have been feuding a little bit (not much) over something stupid, well maybe not stupid. He says that feeding a baby while she is laying down is very bad, but I don't think so. Who is right?

If anyone says that doing something is bad, and it is not outlandish, I would believe them. Your friend is indeed correct. Your child has a better chance of choking while on his/her back.

Grandma Lori is correct. Plus, it takes away from the bonding needed by the baby and the parent.

That is also a brilliant point. I can never remember a time that I never fed my younger children until they learned the microwave. It is really a special time.

I feel kind of bad now that I didn't know this. Thank God I came here. I will go ahead and take Grandma Lori's point about feeding them until they can use a microwave :D.

Try eating while laying on your back, and you'll experience the same fun your baby is having.

I see you've already gotten good advice so I have nothing to add. :D

Not only could she choke on the food, but if the food makes her spit up it has no place to go. It's definitely not a good idea to try to feed her while she's laying on her back. Either sit her in a seat, hold her, or at least prop her up with pillows. I'm glad you posted the question before something bad happened. It takes courage to admit you're not sure and to seek advice. Good job. :)

When I seen my daughter doing this I smacked her!!! Then I gave her some pointers. Never feed your baby when it's laying down for all the above mentioned reasons.

You actually smacked your daughter? Wow, Granny gone wild. LOL
Seriously though, laying down while eating could cause the food to go down the wrong way. The baby could choke. And, be glad MinnieMa wasn't around to see you when you messed up. :)

Yes, I smacked her......................not to hard though. LOL It served the purpose of getting her attention and making her do the right thing.

MinnieMa are you one of my kin? Sounds like something mamaw or granny would have done to me if I'd try to feed my boy while he was laying on his back.

I tried to lay on my back and eat a sandwich just to see how it felt. It was hard to swallow, and I did manage to choke. And I'm adult....... don't do this to your kid.

If the baby is still bottle feeding and the baby is holding the bottle on their own, liquid drips. Babies don't always hit the mark. Formula can run down the outside of the mouth to the ears. They can get earaches if the formula makes it inside of the ears. It's like a swimmer with swimmers ear.

Well, feeding a baby is as only as hard as you let it be. Then again when they start slinging food......duck!

This is one of those things if you just stop to think about it you'll realize it's not a good idea. But many people do it without thinking. Don't try to let your baby do something that you couldn't do yourself.

You don't feed children (or yourself) laying down b/c the airway is not completely open and makes it harder to digest many things. :) I am telling you - your wrong - sorry. ;)

lol, yeah, I see everyone has gotten their 2 cents in here already. But try laying on your back and eating and drinking if you have any doubts about the risk involved in such a habit.
