What are the first solid foods that you introduce to babies? I know mine was grain cereal. I am wondering what is the reccommended first solid foods?

After cereals they say to start with vegetables first. Then after you have tried a few kinds of veggies than start trying the fruits. I've heard that because the fruits are sweeter and baby will probably like them better you should start with the vegetables first. Of course, other moms probably do things differently. I did start with the veggies and gradually moved to the fruits.

We skip cereals, don't start them until 9-12 months. Both my kids started on veggies, the first one being sweet potato mixed with breastmilk. Other good choices are avocado, pear, banana (be careful, they can be binding). Breastfed babies tend to like fruits more, because breastmilk is sweeter than formula (so I've heard, I've never tasted formula).

Nowadays it depends on who you talk to. The AAP is starting to move away from cereals as first food since added iron is not necessary for healthy infants. La Leche League reccomends bananas as first food.

I, myself didn't bother with cereals this time around. They're too processed for my liking. I gave him toast and real rice later on, about 8 or 9 months. We did bananas first, then a couple of veggies and meat. The sweet preference has been disputed for generations as breastmilk is sweet and my kids always loved veggies anyhow.

I did do cereals with my older two as I didn't do near as much research until I was pregnant with my third one (thank you internet).

My son went cereal, fruits little cut up ones like bananas, and toast. My girl right now still loves cereal I think she just likes it to make a mess with it. :D She also does little carrots and broccoli.
