Hey everyone!!! I have a three week old baby boy who cries and grunts very bad every time he has a bowel movement. We have been giving him Mylicon gas drops but they don't seem to be helping very well. I was told that some children are born with small rectal rings and that can cause them pain when they use the bathroom. Do any of you know anything about this?? I'm not sure what it is!!! Is this normal?? Should I go ahead and take him to his doctor?? Help!!!
Thanks a bunch,
Teresa ;)
Teresa,
hello, how are you i am new on this forum. But i can tell what you are experiencing is completely normal. what always helped me is rubbing the belly or exercising the legs agains their tummy's. I am 4 months pregnant and I am very nervous about birth. If you have any advice I would like to have it. I really have no one to talk to.
Sincerly, Amber ;)

The best advice I can give you is to take your son to the doctor.
I found some information that could be helpful to you. If it's just gas, then this advice should help. If it doesn't, then there might be a worse problem, and like TheNanna suggested, you should probably take him to a doctor. Try this first...
Several things may help. The more babies are carried throughout the day, the less gas discomfort they have, especially in the evening. The gentle jostling seems to help the gas find its way out. Tummy time also helps many babies. The gentle pressure on the abdomen moves gas along when the gas has built up. Laying the baby on his back and bicycling the legs can help, as can sitting in a little warm water. Try getting caffeine and caffeine-like products (including chocolate) out of your diet if you breastfeed; this helps for most babies. And for some babies, getting nuts or dairy out of your diet would help.

Has the problem improved? If not then I give taking the child to the doctor a second vote.

I'd probably take him to the doctor. My friend's baby used to cry every time she had a bowel movement. It was because the movements were large and hard, they were painful to her. The doctor was able to prescribe something, I don't know if it was a stool softener or what, but it took care of the problem.

Another vote for a doctors visit. IMHO it's the thing to do before the problem gets worse.

Maybe he has colic. I have a seat cover thats heated and vibrates or massages. The massage setting is too much, but if I turn the heater on low and put the seat on vibrate and lay my son on that, it seems to help him. I know not everyone has one of these, but anything that causes a vibration should help. My sister-in-law puts her little girl in the baby seat on top of the dryer and it calms her right down. Of course her dryer is old and tends to vibrate quite a bit, it might not work with a newer model.
Let us know how it's going for you.
