How do you choose your toddler's toys? And how much is appropriate to give in one gifting occasion?

We recently (yesterday) had cause to have a gift day and her nan is saying that I bought too much! Is there really such a thing?! :D

I would think that two reasonably priced gifts ( about $10 each) from any one person would be "enough" although obviously its easy to want to spoil a child. I normally choose toys for friend's toddlers based on their interests and educational value. I'm a sucker for books or stuffed animals for younger kids and those Klutz books with kits to learn to do things for older kids.

I would buy three things for the toddler, so that they're so spoiled but not too spoiled. I would buy them a stuffed animal, clothing and a storybook for bedtime tales. I know what you mean though, they're just so cute when they open their presents.

Well, let me expand upon this a little and tell you that no one else was buying her gifts, and we don't celebrate Christmas. So this is her big thing of the year. I think that if all your toddler got for Christmas was an outfit, a stuffed toy and a book that you would be a little disappointed!
