Hey everyone!!! My fiance and I are going to visit my mom in North Carolina with our 3 week old son. It is about a 4 hour drive from where we live in Virginia. I am breast feeding and Ryley (my baby) eats atleast every 2 hours. Have any of you traveled with your new baby's? I would really appreciate any tips you guys could give me.

Thanks a bunch,

Teresa :)

thus far my baby has been pretty easy to handle on long trips (been to ky twice). When hes ready to eat you probably shouldn't try to do it while you're in motion, pull over then feed him.

I feel that safety is always first, especially when it involves your child. Pull over of course and take a break. I'd say mom and dad go in and get something to eat, and then feed the baby in the car. Be sure to do a quick diaper change, and you're all set.

Good advice to follow. I know this is how we did it back in the day. :)

Personally, when traveling with an infant, I think it's a good idea for one of the parents (whichever one is not driving) to sit in the back seat with the baby. You'll have much easier access if they should happen to get sick or something (which could easily happen in a moving car right after feeding). And I believe they'll just feel safer with you there next to them than they would feel all alone.

Try to play some soft music in the car, or else play nothing at all. I know how loud rock tends to help keep you alert on a car trip, but that's not good for the baby at all. If you're afraid soft music will put you to sleep, don't play any music and just rely on conversation for the trip.
