Has anyone had to deal with this?
We have recently. It really stinks. Its not hard to get rid of, its just a pita to spend half the night at the laundry mat doing ALL the laundry in the house, re folding and putting everything away. And washing everyone's hair with that stinky RID stuff, then double checking to make sure you got them all.
Its not a *drity* child thing. Actually, usually its the cleaner children that usually end up with it.
We have started sending ziploc bags to school for out kids to put their hat and gloves in so they arent being touched by other kids to help prevent the spread of lice from others.

I remember getting lice as a kid in like kindergarten. I had hair down to my waist at the time too. It took 3 good washings and picking through with the nit comb to get rid of it all. My mom about went nuts. Luckily we had a washer/dryer so no running to the laundromat, just washing the used stuff and bagging the stored linens. My dad told me if the third washing didn't get rid of them all we were shaving my head. My mom combed the first two and he did the last cause she wasn't interested in doing it again and decided he needed to share the load. Thats a really good idea with the bags for their hats and gloves.
Yep, actually lice prefer clean hair. It's harder for them to hold onto greasy hair. We've had them twice. Two different houses, schools and friends. The first time everyone got them except my husband. Guess they didn't like his hair. The second time, only my youngest had them. And they were the hardest thing to get rid of that time. We ended up having to cut his hair so short, he was almost bald. Poor baby, I felt so bad for him. I had to get a prescription for something stronger than Rid. It just wasn't doing the job.

We had problems with lice in school a few years ago. Seems like almost everyone had them. It was a joke for a long time after that. Several people would start scratching their heads at the same time. The teachers didn't think it was so funny, but we all did.
That Rid stuff sure does stink. I think that was the worst thing about it.

Why is it that they made Rid have an awful smell? Do lies die on bad scents?
I remember when I was young and my aunt will search lice through my hair. I always like it for it makes me sleep but I would eventually wake up when she found one and pull it out from my hair. The remedy that my father did was to cut my hair very short that lies would have no hair threads to cling on. I was semi-bald with that kind of haircut.
What is the best prevention, especially for children, in order not to get those irritating lice?
