I will be the first to admit that I never followed everything to a T.

You are always told when you become pregnant, don't eat this or that, and stop eating so many of those. When I was pregnant last year with my daughter, my husband was worried that I was eating too much "junk food", we went to the doctors visit like normal, and he goes "Should she be eating that".........my doctor looks at me, about 6 months pregnant and turns to him: She can eat anything she can keep down. :)

While that is good to go by, there are some things I would suggest cutting down on:

Cigarettes, I know its hard, no matter how long you have smoked, but in the end it is well worth the hell you will go through to have a healthy baby. I cut back to about 3-4 ciggys in the entire 9 months with my son, not as much with my girl - both turned out good, and I am thankful each day for this. Do NOT leave it up to luck - cut back or quit ASAP.

Drinking, don't do it, thats as simple as it gets. If you are an alcoholic, seek help, otherwise its not worth the risk. Too many things can happen when you are cooking a baby in your oven, don't risk it! I never drank anything alcoholic with my children.

Caffeine, this was hard for me, as I am a huge Mt. Dew drinker, and when I worked my travel job, going back to working nights after my son was born - my caffeine intake almost tripled, so cutting down last year with the pregnancy of my daughter was hard but I think I had maybe 2 drinks a day, if that. The last thing you want when you are pregnant is a hyper child in your womb kicking you all about. :D

Try to remember, that just b/c you are "eating for two" does not really mean eat twice as much. You can increase your calories a day, but don't go overboard about it. :)

Those are great suggestions Alexis. I was very young when I had my first child, and all through the pregnancy, and while nursing, I would drink 4-6 Mountain Dews per day. Mt Dew has tons of caffeine! Looking back, I figure that might be the reason my daughter was so fussy when she was little. I wish someone had told me back then to cut out the caffeine, Maybe then she would have slept!
