How far did you take home safety when your little one was due-or rather, child proofing? I am firmly of the belief that only the most extreme or injury threatening things should be taken care of and the rest should be parental supervision. For instance I wouldn't keep my child in a pen all day so that I didn't have to keep her out of the things I don't want her to get into. Kids need to explore for their development sake.

So how did you deal with your home?

I know when we brought the puppy home or babysit my youngest niece (a month younger then the puppy) we bought outlet plugs, cabinet locks, and have everything waist level or under picked up and out of the way. We don't like to pen the puppy all day either so it important he can't reach anything dangerous. We would buy corner protectors if we had any furniture that wasn't padded.

With my first baby, we used the outlet covers and latches on the cupboard doors and everything else we could think of. Also keeping any dangerous substances, like cleaning fluids, up in higher cabinets.

Then my second daughter came and none of it worked. She was so smart and had great fine motor skills. She would take the outlet covers out, open the latches, etc. She was tough to keep up with, too.
