Me and my wife are having so much trouble figuring out what to name our daughter. We were thinking of using each of our mom's names, but decided against it. We want our daughter to have her own unique name. We will use their names as the middle name though.
Can you give us some ideas on how to name her?

Baby Names for Dummies is an awesome book. :D. I would just look in the book and find names I like, and also find ones that I think ring with my last name. It takes a little thought, but it should go well.

Thanks, I might just look online. If I find something I like, I will make note of it here.

Some parents will wait until the baby is born to choose a name. This might be an option for you and your wife?

I feel that if we waited until the birth, that we might choose the wrong name. I think it feels good to have an idea at first instead of just spontaneously choosing a name.

I would just decide on a name that you both enjoy, and not be overly worried about what it relates to or if its one of your parent's name etc..
If you don't like it later on, that what nicknames are for.

You can get a book of baby names and read through the names and meanings until you find something that just seems to fit. There are also websites of baby names if you don't want to go out and buy a book. Just google "baby names" and you should be able to find some great websites. One little thing though... watch out for initials. I know someone who's last name is Smith, who named their daugher Angela Susan. No child should grow up with initials like that. So, choose carefully. :)

I just posted up a link to a book that I saw on a TV show. Check out the thread with the internet baby name sites, there's a link there for the book. Another source is just names that you hear that you like on TV or in movies. I know someone who named her baby after a soap opera character. I'm not sure which soap, but the little girl's name is Kayla. There are names to be found everywhere.

Names aren't hard to find. Sit down with a pencil and paper... write the alphabet down the side. Now go down the paper and write down 2 boys names and 2 girls names for each letter. Mom to be makes a list, and dad to be makes a list. Once you have your list, trade. Cross off all the names you dislike from the list your spouse created, and they'll cross off the names they dislike from yours. Then compare lists and see what you have in common. What we noticed is we ended up really liking biblical names ... Rebecca and Matthew were our top two choices.

That seems like a lot of work. It doesn't sound like the best thing to do when getting ready for a pregnancy. We do plan on sitting down in a week or two to figure it out though.

I agree with Devilfish Dad, it is a lot of work for first time parents. They have to get ready for lots of other things.

Well here's a unique way to get a baby name... I just saw an ebay auction to "name that baby" where the winning bidder will get to choose the name for the couple's baby when they raise the funds for IVF. You have to see this..

With my husband and I, I let him pick the name. I was a tradtionalist. If our first baby was a boy I wanted to name him after dad. I wasn't going to add Jr. to it, just my hubby's first name. He didn't want that. After that we agreed that we would not use any of the names that were floating through the family. We both decided that we wanted something fresh and new.
Well, our first baby was a girl and we were both just as satisfied. We named her Kelly Allison. It meant truthful warrior. I really thought that we had hit on something very unique.
We got the birth certificate in the mail. It looked so good on there. My mom looked at it and very quietly reminded me that Kelly was the maiden name of her mother-in-law. Well, live and learn...lol
