I have a pretty big family. And every time we go to KY to visit, everybody wants to hold the baby. It doesn't bother me for most of my relatives, but then they want their kid to hold my son. Little snotty nosed kids holding my son just makes me uncomfortable. Kids carry germs. I've about used up the "he needs changing" excuse. My relatives probably think my boy has kidney problems or constant diarhea. How do I say "look, I don't want your kid holding my baby", without sounding like a complete jerk?

I'd say there is no way around it, you can always sit with the kid in your lap and have your child in the kids lap, keeping a firm grip on your child. You can also tell the young child to wash his/her hands. I don't really see any way around it.

Have you considered that you are over reacting a tad bit? Being exposed to these germs will help strengthen your child's immune system, as well as help introduce it to more socialization.

I guess I could be over reacting, but it's my first kid. I just want to be the best dad I can be. Maybe I'll loosen up a little with the next kid?

I've seen small children do harm to babies. I say avoid if you can. If not stay right there so you can take charge quickly if need be.

I remember when I was younger and my cousin was born. I sat on my aunt's lap and had my cousin in my lap. My aunt had a close hug on me to make sure I was okay. I don't think I held him when he was too young, I believe he was able to support his head on his own.

As I said, I think this is the best thing you can do. It protects both children.
