I have yet to return to work but each month is a month (or a bill) closer to doing so. As a stay at home mother, how do you make ends meet? Have you ever tried working from home?

I hear that medical transcription is really an upcoming career-anyone here do it?

I have a friend that does medical transcription, but not from home. She gets paid well though and only works a couple days a week, when her husband has off from work so they don't need daycare. It always sounds like a decent job but I've never really looked into it.

I know lots of the moms near me do daycare or have part time jobs in the evening after their husbands/boyfriends/etc get home from work.

There are also many small companies that are looking for people to do paperwork/light bookkeeping from home. You might be able to find a job with someone local and that is willing to work with you on a schedule.

Google is occasionally hiring for people to scan websites and validate search requests....at least, I think that's how I'd describe it. That might be something to look into.

Urbanmom- I applied for that Google job, but I never heard back! Maybe I should apply again, I would have at least thought I'd get a rejection letter!

I'm still looking for something that pays decent that I can do from home.

You should definitely apply again. You should have heard something within a few weeks one way or another. I faxed my app to them and then called to make sure they got it, they get a lot of apps.

My works full time and get paid decent, so I get to stay at home until my youngest goes to school. But, I work write articles and review products to make a few extra dollars. It gives me a little spending money I wouldn't have had otherwise. I did look into the medical transcriptionist job but I was afraid I couldn't remember everything :p and didn't do it.

I work at home part time. There are many companies that hire customer service and inbound or outbound sales reps to work from home. You would be surprised how many 800 numbers you call and you end up with someone who works from home! Toys R Us, Pizza Hut, Home Shopping Network, and the list goes on and on! They are usually contracted out through other companies though. Some of the ones to check into include West At Home, LiveOps, Cloud 10, and Arise, There are also jobs available through ChaCha, Mahalo and Organized Wisdom for internet research guides. These all pay pretty close to what you would get working in a call center or office somewhere, plus you don't have to pay for child care, gas, special clothes, etc. Just do a google search for any of those names and you should find them pretty easily. Good luck!!

I am actually taking an online medical transcription course. I stay at home with my daughter and I hope that once I've finished my course I can get a job that will allow me to work from home full time. I have also just recently picked up some part time work from home as well. I review websites and give my reviews and make around $50-$80 a week doing this. It's not alot of money, but every little bit helps and I really enjoy the job!

I think I tend to see more data entry jobs that are listed online for someone wanting or needing to work from home. A friend does shipping from her place but Im not sure what company she works for.

I have seen those data entry jobs too meri, but I've heard alot of them are scams. So, I have been a little leary of applying for them. There is one site I just got on with that doesn't pay alot but it is really easy and fun to do. It is Key For Cash and basically you are just typing data. Sometimes they have work for several hours a day and sometimes they don't have any. I think I should be able to clear around $100 extra month doing this.

I make a little extra money by writing articles for a company. It's not a lot but it does help pay some bills, which seem like they never go away! :p
