I am 37 right now and I have a new wife who just had a set of twins (one boy and one girl), and I am going through being a parent again. Are there any other middle-aged second time parents? My two previous sons (20 and 17) don't really like the fact that she is pregnant again, but they are tolerating it.

I'm 31. My husband is 38. He'll be 39 and I'll probably be 38 by the time we get our first placement of FOSTER children and be parents for the first time.

Im 35 and have a 1 year old. I marries my wife when I was 32 so I guess we got a late start. The only down side I see is I might have to work longer to her and any other kids through college.

My grandparents were in their 20's when they were married and had their first child 10 years later; their second 5 years later. It was harder for them back then because the hurry up and have a baby was the mantra back then. Now a days I don't think it really makes a difference. Look at the grandparents that are raising their grandchildren of today. That's old age and they seem to be getting by.

Wouldn't it be harder for the grandparents that have health problems or are limited in their budgets to raise the grandkids?

My grandmother was 37 when she had my dad. And he was an only child. My grandfather was even older (not sure how old though) and he already had teenage kids from his first marriage. It was strange to wait so late because back then girls got married and started families pretty young. Most of her sisters were just teenagers when they got married. Now days I think it's just more common to see older parents. People aren't in such a hurry to start families now. Sometimes they want careers first, or just time to enjoy being single. I do think you reach a point where you shouldn't be having babies though. I used to think you really should have them before you're 30. Now, I think you need to have them by the time you're 40. Just for health reasons.

I feel that having children at any time, as long as your are physically healthy before you start, is alright.

I was born in to a middle-aged parent family and I am completely fine. The problem I am scared of, however, is that my parents won't be around as long as others.

That is another thing I am scared of. I don't want to suddenly croak when my children are 16 because I had a heat attack. It is really scary.

It is really scary. And you can die of a heart attack, accident, or other illness at any age. Those things don't just happen to "older" parents. They happen to young parents too.

I was 19 when I first had my daughter, however my mother was 56 when I had her. My mother had a hard time keeping up, but God rest her soul, she was a great mother.

My mother was 36 when she had me, I was her 3rd and my fathers 4th child. I had my son when I was 22 and my girl when I was 26, sons father was 24 at the time, and daughters father was 30 (for his 30th birthday he got a crib from his Mother). I think it takes time to adjust at any age. Father time I understand your worries, I lost my mother when I was 20 and she was 56, I worry about this alot, its normal - trust me. :)
