Do you think it's important that your child learn to play a musical instrument? If so, at what age do you think lessons should begin? I've always wished I could play the piano. So, when I have children, I'd like to get them started on piano lessons as soon as they're old enough.

I'll definitely support anything they express an interest in doing, but I think I'll wait til they're old enough to tell me they want to play an instrument. I could get them piano lessons and find out they'd rather play guitar. I'll let them decide.

You have to let a child try something just once. Most of the time they will drop it after they think it's boring. If it can be rented, it can be exchanged for something else if they want a different instrument.

I played piano for 10 years so i am kind of teaching my son to play. He seems to enjoy it and maybe I will get him a real teacher if he sticks with it.

I played clainet. Thought I was going to be another Glen Miller...lol. Then I moved to flute. Never finished up with either one though. Wish I had.

I saw a piece on the news last night for a rock school in my area. The kids were jamming so well that they are playing at one of the local venue's this weekend.

My parents started me on piano lessons when I was 6. I like to play piano. If they let me keep my baby, I'll try to do the same thing once it's old enough.

Your parents are not in charge on what you do with your baby or not, that is absurd!

Getting back on track, I never really played many instruments. I play the drums at school, but that is it.

I think that it is only important for them if they have an interest in it. If they never have intentions of playing a musical instrument then why should you put them through it. If they show an interest though that is a whole different story.
