She is a getting married come June and has started to work to lose weight before the "big day", she has been a little big herself her entire life. And looking at both her parents, I have no idea from where, but its good she is getting healthy again. Anyone with good tips when you are going to be losing more than ten pounds?

Lose it slowly. Most dietitians agree more than 2-5 pounds a week is unhealthy and more likely to get put back on. The first 5-10 pounds are most likely water weight anyway, although its exciting watch it come off so fast, lol.

I find making lots of healthy snacks ahead of time helps, especially when packed into appropriate servings. I have celery/carrots/sweet peppers and pretzels normally packed up.

If she's looking for a program she could try going to the Slim Fast website and requesting a startup kit. They also tailor meal plans, and it only spans 12 weeks, which isn't too daunting, even if you have to start over.

If she likes to eat or is an emotional eater, the best thing is to have pre-prepared snacks, I find that I put on weight easily because I eat on a regular basis and when I can't get healthy food I eat anything I can get my hands on.

My mother just lost a heap of weight by doing two things. One-making sure that she ate 1 salad a day. and Two-water aerobics 2 days a week. Other than that she has not changed a thing and has lost 25 pounds over 4 months.

I know some that watch that show called The Biggest Loser and while you cant really follow exactly along with the show it can motivate many to get back into shape or even start if they never have before. I think many people need the motivation as they just don't feel they can do something so scaled without support from others and I don't mind giving any support. If its good for you then I'm with ya!

What does this have to do with childhood obesity?

I love biggest loser. As far as losing weight on your own I would suggest watching what you eat. I have heard that MSG really does a number on your body. If you can eliminate it from your diet it can get rid of headaches and excess pounds. Also watch the sodium intake.
