Gripe water has been used for a very, very long time on upset babies, although the recipe is different now than it used to be. Originally it contained alcohol, which of course helped to calm the infants.

That was removed sometime in the last 15-20 years and now a tamed down version is sold. It's not quite as effective as the old recipe, but still does the trick.
