View Full Version : Nervous About Allergies

I'm quite afraid about if my son has any allergies or not. We've stuck to the same areas of foods and such, but we can't stick to the same thing forever. I'm just all of a sudden paranoid about giving him something new all of a sudden. What should I do?

I would stick with trying to give him one new type of food for a couple of days, make sure there are no reactions. This way, with just one new item added, you will be able to tell, if any, which there is a reaction and possible allergy of. How old is your child?

There are also things that you can avoid until they are older. Such things would include egg whites, peanuts, and other well known allergens.

There are actually schools of thought that say that it is the lack of exposure to these things that is causing the allergies. Peanut allergy sufferers are being treated by being given micro doses of peanuts, small enough to tolerate. They then work up the dose a day at a time till the person is taking and tolerating the equivalent of 11-15 peanuts a day-a large enough amount to keep them safe in normal life exposure.

They didn't know at the time I read the study if the people would resume allergy if they stopped taking the peanut pills. So maybe we are being too cautious. I am not worrying at least.
