My daughter is allergic to everything. I swear. Cats, dogs (she has a dog anyway), birds, everything. She won't get a cat because she says they leave her allergies uncontrollabe, where with her dog she can control it pretty much with allergy medications.

I hate it. I want to get my grandson a cat and she won't let me. But he can have a DOG?

Does it seem right to you that she can magically control her dog allergy but not cats? She comes over here and seems fine and I have 5 cats! She will pet them and wash her hands immediately like they are filthy or something. Sometimes if she comes over and her eyes get puffy she'll blame the cats and leave. Meanwhile she pets my dogs and has no problems with them or her own dog.

Does that seem like there's something else going on? If she can control one allergy, why is the other one supposedly out of her control? I just don't get it.

Allergies are triggered by substances. But if that substance is not sufficient enough to trigger the allergy, it will not become active. So I guess your daughter could avoid her allergy once in a while because the substance that triggers her allergy is not sufficient. And I think she couldn't control her allergies because its an automatic reaction of the body.

Allergies are definitely controlled by a number of factors, including severity, tolerance and stress, yes stress. I had horrible seasonal allergies as a child. So my parents took me to a spe******t who tortured, I mean tested me for a long list of possible allergies, including common pets and tree/grass species in the local area. I am highly allergic to cats, but not birds, horses, dogs or fish. I had a cat as a pet. He was the first pet that didn't fit in my palm or a cup of water. I still sneezed but it was a cat or nothing. We moved and had to bring him back to the SPCA we adopted him from, but I still had allergies to pollen and dust and mold. The homeopathic doctor we visited suggested yoga. Once I was old enough to understand I found that my stress level was the biggest factor that effected my allergies. Even in the middle of an allergy attack if I could calm myself down the attack would pass quicker or almost immediately. I also use more homepathic treatments for my allergies than Claritin or Benadryl these days.

Don't most pet allergies come from the dander? Maybe she has been taking something for the reactions she is getting, and when she is in a huff to leave maybe thats the day she forgot to take it? I never had allergies as a child, but my mother had afew, and we went through the list when I was pregnant what my son may end up being allergic to. So far all is well, and he hasn't had any issues. But then again I think my mom was formula feed, and my son gets the breast. Wonder if that has any affect on it?
