When do you usually start to have full blown birthday parties for kids? It seems that my parents would have them (the whole shebang) after we turned 4 or so, is that about the average age?
I'm taking the cake, balloons, hats, party favors - all that. :)

We had cakes, balloons, etc. for every birthday. They may not be old enough to fully enjoy it, but it makes my wife feel like she did something,
My sister threw a few parties when he was younger, then as he got older, I started having parties at my house for him and his friends. I also took him out on his birthday.

My father has a period of birthday parties of specific ages: 1st year, 7th year, 18th year (for girls which unfortunately I don't have a sister), 21st year (for boys), 50th year (golden year, which is for my parents), and the 75th year.
So me and my 2 brothers have a first year and seventh year birthday party. I could not even remember the cakes I have for those birthday parties of mine.
