My niece has a peanut allergy. The school has sent home letters informing the parents that products containing nuts are not permitted in school, including peanut butter sandwiches in lunches. Still, my sister worries constantly that someone will make a mistake. Do you have a child with a nut allergy? If so, are there any precautions you take that might be a little extra protection for my niece? Something we may not have thought of?

Thats tough, peanuts are in a lot of foods. A long time ago I worked at a summer camp. We had a kid that was very allergic to peanuts. We had to be supper carefull about what he ate.

If you go to your local health dept., either through the internet or call, they will have info on what has peanut and peanut by-products listed.

Your sister is the parent and is going to have to learn to handle the allergy. She cannot depend on everyone else around your niece to be conscientious or even aware of it. It's good that the school is being proactive, but there's a whole world out there.
