Did you keep all your pets once you had a baby, or did you find out it was just too much? I'm afraid I might have to give up my dogs.

We kept them, it turned out okay. Dogs got jealous a little bit, but they got used to it :).

We have a dog and a cat right now. They both seem docile. I am sure they will be okay.

With my son in 02, we had to get rid of our cat, but she had been abused and we did not know this until she hid from any male that came near her. For my sons father to even be within a foot of this cat, he had to lay down on the floor lower than the cat, quite sad.

With my girl last year, we did not get rid of any animals, and had no issues with the cats (girl was born in Oct.) our cats are outside during the warm months, inside when its cold out. Our alpha male cat had only one issue with our little girl, by the time he was happy and content to be close to her one day, she ended up sneezing while I was feeding her Apples & Cherry's, he got a face full! He does not visit her anymore. We have 3 outside cats and one outside dog. No worries until the girl is bigger and wants to try walking a Lab/Shep mix. :)

If I'd had my old rottie/doberman mix it would have been a very hard call. In my family pets are family and you don't give away your baby for a pet or vice versa. But if the pet is a danger to the baby you don't have a choice. There are things you can do, like give your dog a treat or lots of extra attention when the baby enters the room, to give the dog a good association with the babies presence though. You have to make the call on your own. I'd bend over backwards to keep my pet, but I would give them up if I HAD to.
